Bet Type Preference in the JRA and HKJC.

I’m going to outline some turnover data taken from the Japan Racing Association (JRA) and Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) websites. The JRA provides far more robust data around turnover, actually dating back to 1980. It is a little more difficult to find in depth turnover data for the HKJC. So they aren’t direct comparisons, however can still be used to provide an insight into the way people bet in these different jurisdictions. Below are pie charts to help breakdown the percentage of turnover of different pools:

JRA Horse Racing Turnover

HKJC Horse Racing Turnover

Now whilst it is difficult to directly compare these datasets. The two pie charts show a difference between the two jurisdictions. In Hong Kong punters seem to prefer the Quinella and Quinella Place. Whereas in Japan the punter prefers to wager into the trifecta and trio.
